About the work:
“I often make my own acrylic paint with acrylic binder and earth pigments. It is a coarse paint in which the pigment granules remain visible in the paint. This makes my paintings have a tangible material appearance. I’m building a painting of color fields, particularly in earth colors arranged side by side or layered over each other. My aim here is to evoke a tension between these patches.
I want to suggest movement in my paintings. The opposing shapes and movement in my paintings are inspired by the counterpoint in music. In music, this means that multiple musical layers are simultaneously audible and go against each other.
I am interested in geometric compositions that are very coarsely painted. The geometric shapes have a kind of personality. Unconsciously my paintings contain references to a mystical primal feeling in which man is part of nature.
